Whittlesford raise the roof
The fundraising effort to replace parts of the church roof at Whittlesford is now in its 24th month.
Sartorial elegance in the form of shorts was the order of the day as the monthly draw took place this morning, accompanied by coffee and lemon drizzle cake in the background.
The church of St Andrew & St Margaret dates back to Norman times - or some of it does - and the current lead roofs have been there for a century and are coming to the end of their time. It’s a Grade 1 listed building.
David Toop has been leading the efforts to raise funds needed. Events like the Village Summer Ball and the art exhibition, plus well attended fund raiser coffee mornings at the Tickell have all contributed too. The cost of the replacement work will be £95,000. Anyone interested in contributing can contact the group through
The work on the roof is intended to start in 2020.
