agri-tech proposals near Hinxton
Over the last few years proposals for an agri-tech site eventually employing 4,000 people along the A1301 road running down to Hinxton from the MacDonalds roundabout have been discussed. Today the formal application went before South Cambs District Council Planning Committee. The committee unanimously rejected the application on grounds of sustainability.
South Cambridgeshire has a strong record in supporting economic growth, including the nearby science hubs at Babraham and Granta Parks, but the issue of how this site would impact on the local infrastructure was a key issue for the committee, and was raised by four parish councils that spoke against it. I spoke as the local councillor for Whittlesford and noted that the Highways Authority, the County Council and the Flood Authority had all raised objections on infrastructure grounds.
