South Cambs district - plans for the future
Last week the Cambridge Independent wrote up the South Cambs budget and plan that was voted through council on Thursday.
In the past the council's plans have been rather dry internal documents but this year we were determined to both consult residents and also make the plans more easy to understand.
South Cambs has some seven per cent economic growth and huge demand for housing as new families move to the district to take up the jobs being generated here. Last week I spent an afternoon with a very successful research company at Melbourn Science Park and this coming week sees the opening of a new science facility at Granta Parks near the Abingtons.
The task for the district council is to balance growth - including housing - with what makes the place attractive to both businesses and families. This means keeping South Cambs a green and attractive place to live, with good roads and infrastructure, and communities that care. These are challenges, but they are exciting ones.
