Fowlmere seeks some drainage solutions
At the parish council meeting last night there was some good discussion on the emerging speed watch proposals, and we discussed chasing up the county about the money that was won two months back as part of the highways improvement initiative bid.
(My experience is that the parishes who have successfully secured funding need then to press for when the work can commence. Leave it too long into the summer and you can find that the county highways team will have already set their programme of works for the next six months, and won't be able to fit in the work for the parish until later in the year.)
Also discussed requests from residents to me asking for the ditches on the side of Pipers Close to be dug out by the county council so that surface water drains away off the roads. This is something that needs doing from time to time, and I have this morning agreed a site visit with the highways boys. It won't be as full-fat as the work recently completed along the A505 which was done to stop flooding on that very busy highway, but more like the work being done at Babraham and Pampisford, and the work at Thriplow done over the winter to stop puddles of huge size appearing in Middle Road, which involved digging up a collapsed drain on the green..
