A505 fatality - another reason for urgent action
I am very sorry indeed to read of yet another fatal traffic accident on the A505 - this time near the Pet Crematorium on the curving section of road between the Fowlmere turnoff and Thriplow Heath, that generally has good visibility. I can't speculate as to what happened, and the police traffic accident investigation team will publish their findings in due course.
Only the day before I had been out distributing my newsletter setting out the calls from parish councils for improved safety on the A505 and the junctions leading off it, and the work that Thriplow had been doing in this respect, working with me and local county council officers to bid for safety improvements to a particularly challenging junction with narrow turning lanes.
This road is well over capacity and it will get worse. It is a vital piece of infrastructure that is starting to fail the volumes it carries. Serious investment is needed, as part of the devolution agenda.
