Lord Lambourne apples, anyone?

South Cambs District Council wants to put in a small walkway of fruit trees along the open space between the ends of Butts Green and The Lawn. I met the ecology officer to discuss last week.

This is by way of making amends for over-enthusiatic pruning back of some council owned land made up of r ough patches of bramble cover winter before last.

There will be a planting day scheduled for the Monday of half term i.e. 13 February with the putting in of the rootstocks and mulching etc. Not a huge orchard - seven or eight trees, and deliberately not just a load of apples, but fruit chosen not to attract wasps and to ripen early so it can be enjoyed. Further details nearer the time - and someone needs to water during the summer.
